    Manish Malhotra’s design for the Air India uniform

    Tata Group’s Air India has officially announced its collaboration with renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra to craft a fresh uniform for its crew members, as reported by PTI. The last uniform overhaul took place in 2015 during the Government of India’s administration.

    CEO Campbell Wilson expressed, “We are in close collaboration with Manish and his team to integrate elements of our brand, heritage, and culture with the distinct requirements of the aviation environment. We anticipate a new and exciting look that embodies the essence of the new Air India.

    Air India Plans New Uniforms For Crew By Year End, Sarees To Phase Out

    Under this partnership, Malhotra will design uniforms for a workforce exceeding 10,000 individuals, spanning cabin crew, cockpit crew, and ground and security staff. Currently, Air India employs over 8,000 flying staff. The current female cabin crew attire includes a red or blue saree or kurta, while male cabin crew don a white shirt, black trousers, and a black jet.

    Malhotra expressed his honor at collaborating with Air India, referring to the airline as “our national flying ambassadors.” He further shared, “Our shared ideology is simple yet profound: to evolve without erasing, to modernize without forgetting. Together, we aim to weave tradition with the future, creating uniforms that seamlessly blend comfort and authenticity, enveloped in timeless elegance.

    As for the timeline, the new Air India uniforms are anticipated to debut concurrently with the induction of new A350 aircraft later this year, according to an earlier PTI report. Air India has substantial orders for 470 aircraft from both Airbus and Boeing. In its most recent statement, the airline disclosed its intention to commence the rollout of the new uniforms by the conclusion of 2023.
